Adventure as an Aurora Surf mindset

Being open to new discoveries, gaining understanding through lived experience, embracing challenge and sometimes discomfort as a part of the growth process then listening for the new stories that come from our experience. This is all part of delving deeper into our amazing world, and how we live and breathe our work.

We deliver premium experiences in surf instruction, environmental education, sustainability and health awareness. We consult with clients to create the best program possible to meet their unique needs.

customised programs

Instead of focusing purely on recreation to provide people access to the coastal environment Aurora Surf promotes a holistic awareness of the beach and its shoreline, sharing a variety of ways you can form meaningful relationships with it. You customise the kind of experience you wish to have and we create it!

For example, whilst learning to surf you may ask to also receive information about dune and aquatic ecosystems offering you an enriching opportunity for people to learn about and care for the place they are in. Or perhaps you would like to know more about what’s being done to reduce ocean plastic waste and other linked sustainability solutions.

Also, while visiting the area school groups may wish for a comprehensive beach combing experience that weaves scientific eco-system and food chain knowledge into a tideline adventure that’s full of surprises!

Another example is our exceptionally well sequenced and structured sand ‘engineering’ activities, that incorporate marine ecology, scientific, artistic and historical narratives. With our highly experienced outdoor educators we can theme our sessions to suit primary students through to corporate team building workshops!

Too windy for going near the beach? Well lets take a step back! Kite making and flying is also a very popular activity that provides people with a take-home item they have built and decorated themselves. We learn about the wind and weather, play with colour, laugh and smile as your world becomes lighter. Practicing recreation, education and mindfulness has never been easier to do or more fun!

shoreline stewardship

Aurora Surf embodies the values of people who live closely to the coastal environment.

We are one part of a much bigger community of people who care about and care for, the variety of coastal, shoreline and marine ecosystems.

Our coastal stewardship ethos underpins our practice and we affiliate with all who take a positive stance in caring for and protecting this precious place we like to visit and live near.

We share motivational and positive climate adaptive stories about what we are doing to care for our coastline while taking care to provide a balanced and nuanced perspective of past and current issues that are related to these topics.

We are not separate to nature, its health and our decisions matter, and we come to recognise this through hands on learning experiences. Aurora Surf guides people into a deeper understanding of this through storytelling and firsthand evidence that can be seen, touched and heard.

a strong educational foundation

Aurora Surf’s founder has 20 years experience working in Outdoor Education and student wellbeing settings across a broad range of learning programs, government and private schools, and variety of Australian environments.

As a registered Victorian teacher Chris understands the complexities of curriculum design and delivery and how hard teachers and community organisations work in order to give their students and clients access to the outdoors. Aurora Surf is designed to make this process as easy and cost effective as possible.

We can support teacher to student ratios, meet curriculum outcome requirements and extend students engagement before during and after their time with us at the beach.

Combined with a lifelong pursuit of surfing, adventure education and nature exploration, Chris cares deeply about the health of people and the environment in which they live and is committed to sharing his skills and expertise for the benefit of others.

We acknowledge peek whurrong people of the Eastern Maar Nation who are the Traditional Owners of the sea country on which we live, learn and play.

we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
